There are times we / I need to escape. Where he and I escape to is called “Green Peace”, not the organization but, a feeling created by surroundings. Green is the color of peaceful existence of growth and growing, of plenty in the fields and in the barns.
Some Greenpeace photos.
Greenpeace is as close as my front door. This was taken about 8:00 in the morning after a nice rain. It felt wonderful to open my door and take a long whiff of the fresh air.
This is a spot at the side of my house, seen from the porch above, possibly 50 feet from where we sat. We were having breakfast, me watching expectantly for ??? and she came into view.
When the familiar isn’t enough, we escape to the river and small parks. This is a canoe drop on the Little Miami River in Remington about 6 or eight miles from us and the lighting for this photo proved to be perfect.
Same location but the discovery of the most wonderful color in this rotted log. The rich red is exactly what I saw.
And when the river isn’t enough, I think of climbing trees into the far reaches, just like Jack, an entertainment I did, scraping many a knee, as a child.
Staring up, past the branches and into the blue of the sky, brings back a lot of what is long past.
A really super week to everyone and Greenpeace.

Mother’s Day 2007
Happy Mother’s Day
Xanga
What are Raphael’s Madonnas but the shadow of a mother’s love, fixed in permanent outline forever? ~Thomas Wentworth Higginson
A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. ~Washington Irving

WATER water everywhere and not a drop to drink
This line, “WATER water everywhere and not a drop to drink” came to me while reading my daughter’s latest xanga update. The line is from the Rime of the Ancient Mariner and it is a worthwhile classic poem for your reading pleasure, free online.
Now, the line is one that follows through for many parts of the world as there are rivers and lakes available but in filthy conditions and some peoples are distant to water access for their daily needs so walks of several hours take place to gather it in pails that are then carried back to homes. In any case, rivers or no rivers, much, much, much of the water is not sanitary / drinkable.
Halie (Halie) suggests donating at this site as a wonderful way to celebrate your privileged life, filled with clean water. Please reach out to those who don’t have luxuries much less the luxury of clean drinking water. Mother’s Day is this weekend here in the USA. I second Halie’s suggestion:
GIVE FOR
MOTHERS DAY
HELP to / for accessing clean water for drinking and other needs.
Here is my favorite site to help water crisis, an invention I heard of sometime back that I fell in love with and maybe you will also. Please take a second to view: these videos and if your heart can’t reach out to this situation I don’t know what might cause it to. Stick with the videos for a moment as they continue and should open your heart with the information.
A few facts taken from the PlayPump site:
- More than one billion people worldwide do not have access to clean water.
- Water-related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, taking the lives of 6,000 people a day, and are responsible for 80 percent of all sickness in the world.
- 40 billion hours are lost annually to hauling water, a chore primarily undertaken by women and girls.
Open your heart and your wallet
and donate to my site of choicethey both work for helping improve water sanitation for millions
A photo from this past Sunday which was a good day out.
John and I spent most of the day viewing the lake, enjoying the sun and munching on the picnic I fixed, home made baked beans, potato salad, pea salad, banana and yoghurt milk shake, and a baked chicken from Sam’s. I prepared what I took using clean water that ran from my kitchen tap. In between the eating, I read, took a few photos and let my eyes linger on this small lake whose clean waters would be a God send to so many people who don’t have the luxury of just sitting around for the day because they “just might like to”.
How is it I was blessed to be born into the life I am so blessed with?

Redhead
A photo taken at the park this past weekend. It was an unexpected shot. I wish I had a dozen or more but this is it. The color is as it was shot, no editing other than cropping to remove parked cars etc.
Redhead
© RSBlain
May 3, 2007Little Redhead,
You walked right into the corner of my photographic eye,
Reluctant, as any child might be on leaving a day at the park.
You are probably tired, maybe a little grumpy, definitely moody,
Scraping the gravels as you walk
The toes of your shoes scuffing your announced leaving. But, none of this is conveyed in the photograph,
Only your coral radiations captured,
And it’s enough.Bright little flower,
You are as much a part of the landscape as if
You were planted, painted, dropped deliberately
Into the view.
Like a ray of unexpected sun light,
Captivating color,
You are a thrilling, unexpected, emotional glow.
I love a redhead. Dogs, cats, children, Elmo, they all count.

May Day and Tranquility
Happy May Day
Remember Floral Maypoles and dancing with streamers
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_the_MayTranquility: Wishing you peace and tranquility throughout the Summer months, be safe, be happy.
Lake Isabella: Many of you have seen photos I have taken from this very small lake in our area. It doesn’t always show off well as many who use it, abuse it. Abused or not, John and I frequent the spot as it changes colors with the movement of the sun each day and year. We feel at peace, here, if only for short spurts of time.
When we find our way to the lake, we often bring things to nibble on and drinks. We just sit and look out on the water and let our minds wander from what our normal lives are. I owe him time to himself in this place so he can remove all intrusions from the week from his mind. He takes his walks, watches lovers row on the lake, feeds the ducks and reflects and I don’t say a lot. Maybe that sounds dull to many of you but to us, it means quality time.
Wishing everyone the same, tranquility and quality time.

History now includes
History now includes “Displace Me” 2007, a gathering / meeting of the minds across the USA bringing attention to the millions who are displaced around the world especially in the African continent / Uganda. Halie and Eden and some of Eden’s friends spent time in Washington D.C. with the group that met there. I have been to D. C. but have never slept in the shadow of the Washington Monument in a cardboard box. I have been assured the trip was eye opening.
This is a collage from some of the photos they took while there. I don’t know the figures for across the country but believe you can get figures on the turnout on the “Displace Me” site. Halie told me she thought there were about 6000 people who turned out in D.C.
Fund raising for Eden’s trip to the student leadership conference is at it’s close. So many people have helped make this trip possible. The initial funds needed were approximately $2000.00 after the first $300 something was sent to hold her place. The funds were raised minus about $250. I know I am thrilled with the response and know Halie and Eden are as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who got involved. Every penny was / is appreciated. See all particulars on Halie’s site (Halie). The money required for Eden’s attendance is out the door tomorrow or Tuesday.
The figures taken from Halie’s site are:
Help us raise our goal of $1945! Only $265 left to raise! but less than one day left. If you have the inclination to be a part of the help for a really good cause, it most certainly will not be turned down. You can still “Help a girl fly”, click on the butterfly. To Purchase items for your own fund raising for an IB student, follow the link for by Geeks For Geeks in the animation below. All purchase at this site will continue to help Eden’s fund raising efforts for the trip and college savings.
My best to everyone,

At your finger tips is the ability to help.
Every life is a puzzle. We wonder why some are born with that silver spoon and why others suffer so much. I can’t say I have ever had money to burn but so far during my lifetime I have never been hungry. The pieces to my puzzle just fell that way. The Aid called for above will help many who live in conditions we have no real understanding of, their puzzles formed totally different than so many of our own.
The puzzle that is Eden has had a wonderful start. I hope the pieces to her life continue in a way she can be of service to the world as the fundraiser above is trying to be.
Here is an image that are pieces to the puzzle that is the recreational side of Eden.
As you can see, she has had an active life thus far. I believe her determination has ensured it to be that way. Though the images display the active side of Eden she understands the importance of learning and the value of keeping helpfully busy. There is so much missing here in this image. You just have to take my word for it per the reading, sewing, cooking, volunteer work and more that is part of her busy schedule. All of it in addition to her studies at school.

Smiles :)
It’s an inherited trait, nice smiles. Some people have them and some, like myself, labor to smile sweetly. I’ve done a study all my life per smiles as my smile really doesn’t come easily and I have always wished it did. I have always been “very happy” my kids took after their daddy as they have inherited his winning smile.
Here is the smile that caught my eye, today. Another photo that Halie took of Eden.
I think Eden’s bright personality along with her smile and her normally good disposition is on its way to taking her far in her dealings with people. As a docent in the Virginia Zoo system she gets to handle animals while discussing their future with visitors. Here, she is doing just that.
Notice, even the Gecko seems to be smiling at her gentle hand.

Girls
Girls can be kind of silly but
they can be so much fun. Eden and her friend on the schoolground in Spain. Halie took the photo, the graphics and any enhancements are mine.
I did the prints on my thank you and greeting cards I posted a few entries back. They came out beautiful. All I have to do now is fix them to send and then out the door.
