I have always wanted to photograph Turkeys.  We made attempts to visit some Ohio Turkey Farms, a year or so ago.   Though we made many telephone calls, trying to make arrangements, it never happened.  My displayed images are graphics made from photos I took while visiting my sister in Loves Park, Ill., July of this year.  Bunny drove us to spots, she knew the Turkey’s could be found.  I had a wonderful time watching dozens of wild birds, and taking photos.  As always, nature proved to be her amazing self, and I had an experience I couldn’t have, at a turkey farm.

  • Oh gosh these are gorgeous!
    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  • Beautiful.  Thank you.

  • @mommers - Hi and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.  I think we are headed in one big fat turkey of a hurry towards Christmas.  I can barely believe how the time has flown.  Enjoy your weekend and the turkey.

@stixandstonz - Seems we keep meeting up in one blog or another.  Can you believe it’s Thanksgiving already?  Seems like we just finished a WeeklyChallenge for Halloween.  Enjoy your Thanksgiving and I’ll catch you on the next challenge round.

  • They run wild in the USA? Only get farmed ones over here. At least I have never seen a wild one. Excellent display and for that matter the wallpaper fits the bill as well. Great stuff Becca.

  • @tim_beddard - Turkey hunting in the United States is a much loved hunting sport.  Turkey hunters love the sport so much, I discovered when we were retailing, they would purchase just about anything with turkeys on them, to wear or display.  Here is a national site about Turkey Hunting and an Ohio game and fish/Turkey site and this page is really fun, it has the sound files for the different calls the turkey hunter buys.  I follow the hunting sports here and there.  It’s something I have always had some interest in as my dad was an avid hunter especially when younger.  Wild Turkey’s are, by the way, a really lovely site.  You don’t see them often or I haven’t but in Rockford, it’s an amazing thing, they are everywhere.

  • Wonderful photos/graphics as usual Becca Have a wonderful thanksgiving Day. Marie

  • I enjoyed these shots.  Turkeys fascinate me, but I don’t want to go out and make pictures of them anytime soon.

  • Great images Becca, my in laws used to have turkeys , every spring they bought the chicks and around this time of year of course they all found thier way into the freezer, there is a certain art to keeping these animals, when they are young they have to eat finely chopped stinging nettles, i always got the job of going out and cutting them down and transporting them back to the house, also i never knew that turkeys could fly, well they can! i’m sure i have some old photos (printed) somewhere of turkeys in a tree and all over one of my cars!

  • @Timages - about Turkey’s flying, yes, they most certainly can fly.  I am not sure a fattened for Thanksgiving domestic Turkey can but the Turkeys I saw would have no problem.  I don’t recall seeing any in a tree but there were plenty walking the grounds in the weeds and mowed areas, young, old, cocks and hens.  I saw them standing under fruit laden trees, jumping into the air trying for the fruit.  The most I had ever seen before were distant and maybe a half dozen.  What I saw on this last trip amounted to dozens and dozens of the birds.  It was such a sight, I would go back just for photos of the turkeys.

  • On the last picture the turkeys attempt to not be seen in the shadow and escape to Thanksgiving ! I like this picture .

Thanks again Becca and John for your amazing animated e.card . This is very kind .
I wish to you both a happy Thanksgiving tomorrow .

    Love

    Michel

  • Barbara and I wish you and John the Happiest of Thanksgivings.

  • @twoberry - Thanksgiving is lovely here today.  The sun is shining and the temperature is mild.  We have a cat adoptee, it adopted us not vice versa but it now seems to own our house and everything in it.  Between John, myself and the cat, our Thanksgiving is going well.  Everyone is fed, we have movies to watch and we are in good form as the Spirit of Christmas has come into our house.  God bless us everyone.  Becca and John
