  • Practice Shots and Updates

A report on my brother inlaw.

Dan is improving but slowly.  He has had a second catscan and the doctor said the blood from the concussion is being absorbed into his system but his recovery may take 6 months or more.  He is still not eating much and in fact doesn’t eat some days.  He insists he is drinking a lot of water.  He ate only a bit of something yesterday and his weight is going steadily down.  Bunny says he is skinny though he can stand to lose some of his belly.  He isn’t as motivated as the old Dan but I think it would be very hard to be motivated without taking in the calories you need.  I forgot to ask if he is still on meds but am supposing he is.  He sleeps a lot and sleeps through times he is supposed to get up.  He has tried to go into work a couple of times but totally wears down in short order.  His work is paying the hospital bills.  Bunny tells me they are being very good about all of this (as they should be, he fell in their lot going into work on ice which should have been salted down by them).  I am praying they continue being concerned and responsible.  Bunny has had Dan out testing his driving skills and he drives well and he knows exactly where he is going.  I think all information of that kind is intact.  The real concern is the eating problem which effects his energy problem.  I am hoping the sleeping is extra healing time.  I know Bunny is still worried about him but the situation is better than it was.  We know your prayers and good thoughts help and continued prayers for Dan will be much appreciated as well.  Thank you, everyone, from all of us.

Goldfish:  All gone, and there will be no more.  I am not fond of little creatures under my care dying.  My aquariums are scheduled to be planters which works for me.  I hope I can manage to keep plants alive.

Sudoku:  It’s on the back burner.  I play once in a while but for now, I needed to get away from it.  It’s easy to lose interest in something you can’t grow with.  I find getting away helps your mind to zero in on information so going back you may see improvement.  I hope it works for the Sudoku.

Movies:  Lots of new ones for Christmas.

Camera:  The best toy I have ever had, a digital camera.  My little kodak DC4800 is still working but has graduated into the hands of my husband.  John understands how camera’s work much better than I do but he hasn’t played much with my new one.  He says he bought it for me and the little Kodak makes him happy.  I have a lot to learn with my new one but am improving in my understanding of the intricacies.  It’s heavy…  I need a new camera bag.  I have since the last post added another lens, adding to the weight and will need to be carrying a tripod.  Some camera adjustments are so precise to get certain types of shots (night or motion), my physical shakes will ruin them if they could be good.  The tripod will take care of a lot and I hope to add an exterior hook up to activate the shutter.

Some practice shots for you.  All taken near or on the Loveland Bicycle trail in Loveland, Ohio USA.  These are all taken with my 28 x 135 mm lens.  My new lens is to 300 mm and I hope to get some practice shots to display, soon.

The Little Miami Scenic bicycle trail is 70 plus miles following the older rail lines and the Little Miami river.

    PracticeShots-BikeTrail1.jpg

It draws a lot of bicycle and walking enthusiasts as it runs through historic districts of older towns and has little shops and eating places along the way.

    PracticeShots-Canoe2.jpg

The Canoe rentals are along the trail also and there are places you can find to sit for some good images of the bicycles or canoes in motion.

    PracticeShots-Trailwalk1.jpg

Not just for bikers, there is plenty of walkway for stretching your legs.  Lots of parking and play areas for children are in the parks and the summer festivals are near or on the bike trails.

At this time of year, though its cold, there are shops and food available.  When it warms up, I’ll find a comfortable spot outside of the car.

    Be well everyone,
    Becca

  • Somehow I missed the news about Dan. How horrible! They don’t need this with everything else they have to deal with. Your pictures are great so you must be doing a good job with the camera. :)

  • I am delighted to hear that Dan is getting better. Hopefully the worst is over and that he is well on the road to a full recovery. Must be hard for Bunny too! I was pleased to hear that his work was taking a more responsible view of the situation. It all adds up to less worry for Dan and Bunny which is good.

I see you have been playing with your new found toy again. Nice shots.

  • some great shots. good update too with Dan improving…

  • Beautiful photos, and wow, I wish we had a trail like that around here!

  • Love your photos always.  So glad to hear things are perking up medically.  We have had a terrible year!

  • It does take time to recover from trauma, so I would think, as you do, that healing is taking place for your BIL.  Afetr I had an emergency C-section, I remember struggling to eat as much as a chicken wing one day!  You can tell that didn’t last long.  : )

I’m sorry to hear about the fishies.  Wonder if it was the water – do you have a water softener?  We had a lot of trouble with tropical fish so we gave up on them, years ago, but goldfish are usually more sturdy.

That bike path sounds fun!  It should provide more interesting pictures with the change of seasons.  Have fun with that camera!

  • GREAT   PICS—KENNETH

  • Sleep is a great natural healer so hopefully will help Dan recover very soon. Great photos with the ” new toy “. I love the trail with something for every body. Marie

  • I’m glad to know Dan is improving somewhat. Time….

Lovely pictures. You are a natural photographer.

  • Sorry about the fishies!!  I hope that Dan recovers very soon!!  Just lovely your ever beautiful pictures!!

  • Dear Becca,

My prayers are with your brother in law. My roommate has lost a lot of weight lately, and looks rather emaciated. He just started “Chemo 4″ after a three month respite. The doctors at Torrance Medical said they couldn’t do anything more for him, since after 3 chemotherapies the cancer is still in his lymph system. Latest advice was from a second opinion from the doctors at UCLA Medical and they’ve got him back on an aggressive chemo treatment that the Torrance docs didn’t want to imnplement again. At least he’s still alive!

My condolences on your goldfish. Hope the plants do better.

A few weeks ago I saw some photo tweaking you did with a still life photo utilizing a filter from your photo editing program. It was on your Photographics site and made the photo look like b&w, but etched. I was so impressed with this filter that I looked for something on my old Picture Publisher program that would duplicate the effect.

Using what’s called the “charcoal” filter in the PP, I came up with THIS.  I created a Xanga entry centered around my composites and photo collages and I had intended on letting you know you inspired me on the “etched” photo when I posted, but I forgot to let you know. So thank you. Your “etching” entitled “Still Life” (the one with the Altoids container) is my favorite from the post you entered.

  • Stopping by to say hi. I hope your brother in law continues to have a steady, smooth recovery. Great photos!

  • The last shot is my favorite, what a cute sign for canoe rentals! But…the uh..nice rear shots of the…well…shall we say physically fit cyclists are very nice too…you naughty girl! LOL J/K! Glad you’re enjoying your new camera!

Hope your BIL is back to normal very soon!

Terrariums are vary easy to keep alive and are lovely too! Good luck with those!

RYC: and the email. No you didn’t upset me, and thank you for the info. My Doctor told me it was “swimmer’s ear” which is what they call it because it’s common in swimmers, but I haven’t been swimming in about 10 years! LOL I am however, fond of baths. Three weeks ago this started. My DH bought me some herbal drops, they worked, till i took another bath and got more water in my ear, so, I’m relatively sure the Dr. was right. Also, I’m feeling about 40% better today…so it’s working, just slowly. Thank you so much for thinking of me!

  • we been planked, rationed and put on night watch!!!   lets see what other trouble we can get into!

  • Ah.  This is very nice blog indeed.

  • @flaminredhead - Actually I wasn’t happy when I read your blog.  In truth, really a bit scared it sounded so bad.  I am so glad it truly is swimmers ear.

  • so glad Dan is on the mend…love your pics…

    take care, God Bless,

    hugs,
    sage

  • Who the fug is Dan?

    Is you cheating on me?

    I kid too fucking much………….

Am soory ’bout the b in law………. grrrrr and shit…….

Liked and kinda loved this pic……….

    That’s all……….

    mitch,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Hope your Dan is feeling better soon. To bad about the gold fish.

  • Looks like struggles ahead, but I do send my best thoughts out to you for Dan’s recovery.

I appreciate your heartfelt comment.  The best bet is clearly my guy.  There are no sure things, EXCEPT it’s certain that if he doesn’t get the nomination, we’ll have to wait at LEAST four more years for something besides same old same old.  Personally, I’m optimistic, all the way around.  YES. WE. CAN.

  • Certainly a worry about your brother in law.  Hopefully time will heal all.  Sending good thoughts your way

  • My favorites in this series are #2 & #4. You do a good job of placing the subjects in a location in the shot that makes sense for the direction they are headed, out of the photo. The tree in #2 isn’t too much of a distraction considering it’s between them and the viewer. The only distraction I see in that shot is the window, which gives away that there’s a building. I wouldn’t have paid any attention to the building without the window. I suspect your horizon might be a bit off, as the black pole in the shot is leaning conspicuously. The couple are also interesting to look at. I wonder where they are headed. I wish the tree wasn’t right in front of them, as it looks a bit like they’re going to walk into it. But I do like the bit of motion blur that can be seen in the subjects’ feet. The blur is a nice compliment to the walking, as otherwise, they’d be oddly frozen in step. Good job, Mom!
