  • It’s March and Finally, a Nice Snow in Cincinnati.

We had some snow on Friday and Saturday, the first real snowfall for our Winter.  It’s a record setter! for here.  I had to be out early on Friday so took some photos as we drove getting back home a little after noon time.

    A few of my pics.

My appointment was for 10:00 am and we were home by about 12:20.  What you see is just how it looked.

The snow came pretty fast with some whiteout conditions.  No big flakes, just hard driving rain type snow.

The flag, not to be obliterated by the snow, caught my eye.

Twenty one minutes past noon and about a mile from home.

This curve is a slippery one running past a small sitting park.

A bit more of the same little park.  I was clicking away hoping for the best.

Looks like later in the evening but all my photos are taken about Lunch Time …

John took this photo the next morning, our Sienna sitting in our drive, after an overnight rest in the snow.  We got about 14 inches.  Loverly.  We don’t get good snows often so for me, it’s a treat.  If I could, I’d be out playing in it.

Another photo John took.  The only two young people we saw out in the snow today.  When I was their age, you couldn’t keep us inside.  The computerized world is a different place where reality seems to disappear.

Here’s a GREAT LINK, see one young person not caught up in the digital world.  It’s worth the view.

    Have a great week people.

  • Hunter is fantastic, I’m betting the accordian isn’t easy to play ! Your snow scenes are lovely – that’s how I like snow these days – on film. We haven’t had mega snow here for years, my youngest 42yr old doesn’t remember snow that deep and feels that he has missed out on one of the pleasures of life. Marie

  • I hope the States are not like that very often. Too cold for me. I visited Flagstaff Arizona about 10 years ago in February. The Joy of that place is you can always drop down to Sedona just down the road for a spot of Sun bathing at 70 degrees. When I say drop down I did not use that phrase lightly as we descended about 5,000 feet over about 25 to 30 miles through some delightful country. Reckon Hank Junior is already a Star.

  • NEAT snow pictures!

“Hard to fool them flies, though.” – ROFL

Yes! The dead turkey jokes vary a good bit from day to day…

I go out searching for jokes, and some days NOTHING strikes me as funny so I just grab the 20th unfunny joke I find!

  • We’ve not had any snow on the coast this year thankfully. Your camera captured these scenes very well. We do have gales and high tides on their way tonight though, Reg will probably go down for some dramatic wave shots tomorrow, high tide being at noon.

The video kept stalling as YouTube does in our evenings, mornings while America sleeps are the best for online video I find. Cable connections probably can do them OK. Our local phone lines need updating from copper to fibre optic.

    I like the green here!

  • The pic of the park is beautiful!  And I am jealous.  I love the way snow looks and feels, the atmosphere of it.  Everything gets muffled and quiet.  You can hear the flakes hitting the ground!

  • wow you did get lots of snow. Awesome photos. I don’t miss the snow at all. Loved your pictures. Stay in and keep warm.

  • That is the part of snow that I like….the fresh beauty, the softness that you enjoy playing in, etc.  It is the rest of it that I hate so much…..when it freezes over and gets so hard to navigate on and then again when it thaws and gets so slushy, dirty and nasty.

    Hugs, Ethel

  • Good  heavens  Becca—and  here  we  are  in  the  UK  getting  into  Spring—kenneth

  • Wow! yes you are lucky, all that snow to photograph, i wish, i wish, i wish we had some too but i think it will be exeptional if we get any now, we have the same winds that are blowing over the british isles right now, the shot of your car is great, i like to get photos like that as it shows really how much has fallen, your pic of the park is postcard material for sure, Beautiful!

  • I had a hard time picking the one I liked best, so I have two I really liked…the sitting park with the empty benches and the flag.  The others are good too.  Soon the topic on Weekly Photo will be “on the way home”  These would be good for that topic.  Have a good week.

  • Your photos are spectacular Becca and reach their goal : they make shivering . I imagine what will happen if we lived with only one stove in the house or when we have to drive outside at feet or at bicycle . They were hard time with this weather .

We reci=eived yesterday you condolences card and my wife and I thank you very much . We have been touched by it like we were by your kind attention during all the illness of Marina that lasts 17 months . I think of the wonderful collages you made and the sending by Bonnie . We are grateful .
    Love

  • It looks cold. Brrrrrrr! It’s been in the 60s this week here and supposed to hit 70 Friday. Dropping into the 30s tonight, though. I need to get outside and do some work, covering up a few things just in case it frosts.

Some thoughts about your photos. You said you were out shooting before & after your appointment, which was 10-12ish. At that time, one might think it would be brighter, UNLESS the light was really that affected by the snow, clouds, etc. If it was actually lighter & brighter outside, your photos look like your exposure is off. Take a look at Dad’s snow, and then look back at your snow. His snow is white, while yours is grey. In order to get your snow white, you need to adjust your exposure compensation (if you’re shooting in anything but manual) to +1/3 or +2/3 stop. This will tell your camera that instead of metering your snow grey, to make it white. Of course, if it really was that grey outside or you want your photos to be all grey and dreary, then disregard

If you still have that snow, you should go outside and try to get some actual white snow shots. Maybe of some plants near your front porch? You can use that macro ring that we gave you for Christmas to get some close ups with snow & plants. Those would be some shots I’d be very interested to see.

    Love,

    Halie
